Our sincere thanks for help in this project to our friend, collector and expert, Gwyn Nicholls, without whom there would be conspicuous holes in these galleries!

Also special thanks to Russell Norton, who has walked some of this trail, and has given us some welcome signposts, as well as some fine images. And to Ken Houlton, historian of the district that was “Our Village”, for expert insights into the Hinton Waldrist of the 1850s, and for so much work to support our quest. And to Sue Foxford, our acquisitions angel, who has kept us in touch with what is out there in 19th Century photography, since the dawn of the 21st Century. We would also like to express our gratitude to Kenneth E.L. Brown and Richard Dallmeyer, both direct descendants of TRW, for lending us vital material from the Williams family. Our gratitude to Michael Pritchard for making available to us some of his current researches into the history of London Photography, and for his expert advice, and David Burder for his technical advice in matters of 3D throughout. Finally to our mentor, for the whole duration of this project, Professor Roger Taylor of De Montfort University.

But so many great people have given generously of their time to help us on our way. This list is incomplete and inadequate, but our grateful thanks to all the following …
